It was amazing. I first visited the main building, and it appears like any regular museum with some collections and some stories.nBut then I learnt that there are two other buildings to visit...nThe guide walked to me to the old general store and it was amazing! Not only is it great to see it, but he told me a lot of interesting history!nThen he also showed me the old school building with the wagon inside and told me again a lot of stories.nI can highly recommend it! It's also great for social distancing as it is not crowded.

Website and social media front is extremely informative. Quality information placed there by this staff. Were I ever to visit the area, this would be one of my first stops.

We made a day trip to Stephen City from Washington, DC to learn about the Black History in Stephen City. I had read on line in Wikipedia one line about a “Freed Black Village” one mile east of Stephens City in the 1850s. I couldn’t find anything else about this phenomenon on line, so we made the trip to the source. Rick, a full time employee of the museum immediately knew what I was asking about and began to tell us all about this pre Civil War Free Black Civilization. He knew exactly where it had been located. Rick had concentrated on Black History as part of his degree!!! Perfect!!!nSo, we asked about more history in the town after perusing the museum artifacts and displays. Rick told us that our $2.00 admission also got us into 2 other buildings in town if we had the time to tour them with him... !!! Of course we had the time!nSo, this day/field trip from Washington was well worth it. If you are into history/Black History you need to take this trip and get the story from a well read and enthusiastic professional at the Stephen City Museum!nThen take a ten minute drive to Winchester and have a stroll down the pedestrian mall and get something to eat.nEnjoy!

A nice way to spend an afternoon. Friendly staff, and well laid out. Great deal for just $2!

Dont even try to go there if you have a dog with you. Whilst there is a sign for no food and drink, there is nothing indicating animals are not permitted. The man who greeted us didn’t greet us at all. Right away he was rude and defensive. We are reasonable enough to realize that not all places of that nature allow dogs, even small dogs in cross body carry bags. We have been more than welcome in many such places, including a few famous ones and we don’t know until we ask. Right?nMy point is, even if the dog is not permitted, a more cordial attitude might have gone a long way, and encouraging us to return when we didn’t have the dog with us would have been acceptable. Actually, anything better then the surly greeting we received would have been acceptable. As it stands now, we wouldn’t consider returning.
