Waikolu Valley Lookout

The most spiritually beautiful place I have ever had the privilege of visiting

You will need a 4WD to get here but the views are worth it when the clouds have parted and it feels like you are standing on top of the world.

When planning our trip to Molokai, the Waikolu Valley overlook was the thing I was most looking forward to seeing. We rented an SUV specifically to help us with the road out there. However, when we tried to go, the road out there was blocked off. There was a locked gate with 2 sign on it. One said “No hunting” and the other said “No trespassing, trespassers will be prosecuted.” It seems like somebody thinks the entire area behind the road, including all 9 miles or so to the overlook is their private property, though this seems unlikely, given the size of the preserve (2,700 acres). Either way, we were not able to visit. Not sure if there’s any way around this (physically, there’s not; this road is the only way there), or anything you can do to make sure the gate’s unlocked or open when you go. It’s a shame, I think it would have been really cool.

Beautiful picnic area and great ambiance. I wish the mist would have moved away so we could've gotten a proper look (the only reason I rated it down a bit... Not in anyone's control, I know, but there it is.)!
