Custer Battlefield Museum

Place was closed. Wish I was able to see inside. Was touch with the unknown soldier. Didn't know there was a unknown calvery soldier. Although it makes sense. Still very somber moment.

On my west to east adventure on Interstate 90 in December 1980, I visited the Custer Battlefield Museum. It was a much needed, welcome break from the freeway. I was rewarded with a warm personal experience that I fully wish that I would have known was so historically significant as a young adult. I will visit again if I am anywhere geographically close in the future. Alas, 1980 was WAY before cell phones and I don't have photographs from this museum. I have the beautiful memory of the breathtaking picturesque country as I departed the museum driving eastward and crossing into Wyoming. So, I must repeat this experience and take a 1000 pictures traveling in ANY direction.

I don't actually hate it but if it was open it would be better!

Not only is the museum a place of complete information about the incident with items that are remarkable to see and know about but the shop is a little museum on its own. I was delighted by not only the items displayed but the info cards were fun to read. All sorts of items, many with the signatures of the creators. A library of books. Many people stop for gas and a bathroom break. Don't miss the rest of the experience!
