Although I know Brenda and respect her as loving person, I do not agree. This cemetery lacked respect by trustees.nProfessionals at restoring stones and cemeteries, contacted Crosby Trustees. They were willing to show proper techniques at no cost. Since it was too time consuming, plus long term maintenance; they were not interested.nOne of the points was basic cleaning of water and D-2 nothing else. Of all things emphasized; stones were not it to be face up and in concrete. “Acid rain”, and lime would deteriorate the stone.nAlso having correct name of cemetery would keep historic feature.nThey did not want to encourage visitors since safety was an issue.

Fernald Cemetery is located near the intersection of SR 128 Hamilton Cleves Pike Road and New Haven Road in Crosby Township near Ross, Ohio. You will find the Cemetery 300’ west of the intersection on New Haven Road.nnFernald Cemetery has several different names. First the Cemetery is split by New Haven Road. On the north side of New Haven Road it is known primarily by the name of the local town, Fernald. It is also known as the Wilkins-Greasley Cemetery for the names of some of the families buried here. The south side of New Haven Road is also called the Fernald Cemetery and the Scott Cemetery, based on names of the interred. Because the State of Ohio has a law that places all Cemeteries that are no longer managed appropriately are to then be assumed by the township. The township becomes the responsibility of maintaining and caring for historic as well as presently used cemeteries. As a consequence, Crosby Township has taken charge of maintaining this Cemetery. As of this writing, the Fernald, Wilkins-Greasley, Scott Cemetery has taken on yet another name, Crosby Township Cemetery. This writer finds the Cemetery in the Fernald boundary and has historically been called the Fernald Cemetery. Also, as I continue my research, I will find additional cemeteries maintained by Crosby Township. I have submitted this location as Fernald Cemetery.nnBoth areas of the Cemetery are well mowed. The two areas are surrounded by metal fencing. There is an opening at the southern section of the Cemetery. The northern section has an old unused partial gate which prevents entrance. To enter the northern section of Fernald Cemetery you will need to access the east corner where there is no fence. There is no trail and the access is a bit steep and gravelly. There is also no parking available near the Cemetery.nnAs you enter the Fernald Cemetery you will discover the historic headstones have been restored and placed in cement bases by Crosby Township. The headstones are managed well.nnFernald Cemetery has records dated back to 1823 where the oldest burial has been identified. Most of the known records indicate burials from the 1840s through 1880s. There is one burial of recent time dated 2012.nnFernald Cemetery is an historic location, well maintained by Crosby Township and offers our community an opportunity to witness an aspect of our heritage.
