We stopped by one afternoon while at Onondaga Lake Park. I will come back! I’m a history lover so this was right up my alley, but I must say the kids were entertained too. I plan to come back on a solo adventure one day to really soak in all the knowledge. Take the kids to the playground first to let them blow off some steam first and they will probably be like my kids, more receptive.

Ample free parking. Lovely setting by the lake. Picnic tables nearby. The museum itself is really well laid out. A full-scale model of a salt boiling box--- otherwise known as a salt making facility!--- inside. Movie showing about lots of local topics and not just salt making. Informative notes tacked up all over the place. It would have been nice to have a docent or interpreter at the desk who was on hand to answer questions and explain things instead of just man the door. But it's free! So I couldn't possibly complain! It's a really lovely local Museum that should receive some more funding so that it can be even more than it is. But don't let that keep you from going! Please go and learn this little bit of local culture!

We had a couple of hours free in Nin and on impulse took the 1 hour tour. Our guide took us through the salt flats where we learned all about how salt is harvested and all about the wonderful flower salt (which is best to use after cooking for taste). So much history there from decades of salt production, all farmed by hand (with some help from mother nature). The museum is also a superb preserve for many birds including the Egret as can be seen taking off in the picture!Their oldest worker is still there today, over 75 years old and big as an ox. They call him Little! Great small museum and gift shop as well. Tours are at 10, 11, Noon and 2pm.

Small museum, yet it is very detailed in the salt block process and the cooperage required for packaging.

It's a neat place to go if you're just hanging out in the park and it's open. A little bit of history about the area & a tiny gift shop.
