We've had a great experience for our first school year with two kids in elementary here. The staff is great, the principal is very friendly, and they are very allergy friendly! They also have iPads which my kids love.

I hated this still the teachers I had in 2nd and 5th grade were terrible. I am happy I don't go there anymore. I don't like their way of teaching. I don't recommend this school, it is the worst elementary school in Las Cruces. Mrs. Rod was the best teacher I have ever had there. The food tastes like something from the trash or prison. I have been food poisoned there before a the meat is always undercooked. They bully and make kids feel like trash there. They were not harsh, they were rude and evil.

Great school! As one child just moved out of it, the next is about to start

My son attened for 2.5 years, he transfered with and IEP as he required learning assistance with speech and reading. He was first places in a small class with children who needed special behavioral care, at this point he would mention having up to 5 recesses's a day. The staff would remove all children from the classroom instead of the child who would have anger outbursts. Constant interruption occurred within his class, towards the end of the year, things got better. Following year (4th grade), my child was referred to needing mathematical assistance when previously he tested at the NM average learning markers. The lack of educational assistance received the previous year affected areas where my child previously never struggled. With parent involvement, concerned teacher intervention, but mostly from the willingness of my son who wanted to highly succeed, he was finally caught up. My son now only required reading assistance. For 5th grade, educationally we had a much better experience, however a bully problem began to occur. My child was even punched in the face. The principal stated the issue would be resolved however, soon after the problem continued. I was informed of two more incidents. I removed my son from this school after a final incident occurred where I was NOT notified of my son being bullied once again. I was able to know about the final incident only because a teacher from the school began discussing with me of her disappoint about the recent even, I was clueless. When I asked my son about the incident, my child informed me that the principal had told him that the incident would be a secret between them. I was disgusted with their unprofessional approach and lack of interest in resolving their bully problem. I was mostly disappointed at how I was kept unaware of my child being harmed. At this point I didn't bother contacting Sonoma Elementary staff, it was beyond clear that nothing would be solved. We originally planned to move out of state once my son finished his last year of elementary but with the continuous incidents and lack of change, we removed my child mid semester. I had the opportunity to meet another parent with similar issues as the ones we were experiencing, she removed her child from the school as we'll and decided to homeschool instead. I am glad we moved and my son was able to be a part of a school who wanted him and assisted him in succeeding, for his 5th grade ceremony, my son was a part of the small group of 5th graders to received a medal for AB Honor role; in addition a mathematics achievement certificate. (School ended June 2016) Overall I was immensely disappointed with this school. There are two teachers which I am grateful for, they are the reasons why my son accomplished as much as he did. However, the current leaders of that school are a disappointment. The school offered monthly movie nights which we attended often, the kids really enjoy it. They also have school carnivals which have big turn outs. The school building is beautiful and classrooms offer high tech equipment, iPad are also provided as part of 5th grade learning instruments. These things were all pluses but none assisted in bettering my child's learning experience.
