Had a lot of fun visiting Grand Portage and especially the National Monument. There is a fort that you can see inside and there are opportunities to climb up and get a better view. The day of my visit a MN state senator was also going to be visiting. The staff were all excited about that and tried to make everything perfect. If I was them I'd be doing the same thing. Wasn't highlight was seeing the boat workshop that had a couple guys actively working on building a boat using traditional methods.

Knowledgeable staff added to the pleasure of seeing this place again. Will need to return when the building can be open.nnWe hiked up Mount Rose the steep way and came back the more gradual way. I wasn't sure I'd make it to the top, but the amazing view was worth the effort, and the handrails on the way down were a welcome relief after the steep steps going up.

Wow, impressive this combined with the village next door are perfect together. The two together are a great pairing, the old with the new. Modern info. with an old time feel. All the way up here, this alone may be worth the trip. This whole region is, was and has been great. Only wish I had had more time.

Small but highly informative of the area and its history. Only visited the main building due to weather. For the history buff or for a break along the trail I would definitely recommend.

The main building is not open to the public, but the outside exhibits are great to see and very informative for anyone who wants to learn of the area.
