This place has been closed for 2 years according to the city hall. They need to take down their info.
We went in Saturday July 6th at 2:43pm and they were closed- no sign or anything telling us that it would be closed- wasted 1 hr tripnWe were sitting in the parking lot for10 min trying to figure where to go next- they opened the gates and let us look. They said they were closed for the season because of a fire.
Although a fire damaged the museum the staff still arranged for our gem and mineral club to dig for fluorite. The staff was extremely friendly
Do to a fire the museum is temporarily closed. They are working on getting the repairs done and reopened. Be sure and check to see if it has reopened before making plans to visit. They are hoping to reopen sometime in the spring but have not yet began repairs at this time.
Very interesting things to see. This place has Fluorite rocks. Rosiclare Illinois is known for their rocks. Would be great to bring kids to this place. And they have a gift shop and we have a rock pile out there for all ages to pick thru. It's like a treasure hunt. It's only a $1.00 a pound.
