The facility itself is amazing but the staff from the top down is FANTASTIC!! Mr. Nestle is a rock star (see spending the night on the roof as a fundraiser reward).

This school was completely horrific. Let me start by saying that my child has always attended public schools and never had a problem until we came here. We had to endure constant bullying not only by the students but by the staff as well. The teacher was immature and would discreetly bully my kid. I went from having an energetic happy kid to a gloomy ball of constant anxiety. I always make it a point to ask my child how their day was and instead of replaying what was learned and experienced I would hear about all the constant bullying and drama with the kids. I could not understand how it was possible for a kid who had been there for almost a year to not have friends and the staff or teacher not care to do anything about it. I expressed my concerns but this only made bullying intensify as the kids started to deem my kid a tattletale. I was desperate to get my child out of this toxic environment and luckily found a charter school to enroll them in. From the very first day the difference was remarkable. The principal took my child by the hand and called the children over and let them know about the new student and instructed them to come say hi. Something that was not done on the first day at Howard Norman. The kids were all excited and curious to meet my child. Watching my kids face light up after all they had endured at Howard Norman was extremely emotional for me. Since moving my kid to a different school: attitude, their overall mood and grades have significantly improved. This school has a bullying problem that needs to be acknowledged. I would also like to mention a situation I witnessed with a special needs student. I came into the lobby to pick up my child for an appointment. I walk in the office and hear a child screaming. The child was in a room and the instructor was holding the door shut while the kid screamed and cried. The cry was not a normal cry. The child sounded exhausted and in need of comfort. As a Mom I have come to learn that there are different types of cries. The instructor holding the door shut kept repeating “settle down and I’ll open the door” in an annoyed monotone voice. Finally I couldn’t take it anymore and I asked what was going on and if the child was ok. To which she responded “it’s confidential”. I was blown away by her attitude and by the way the staff was walking around the office acting like this scenario was ok. Instead of offering guidance and understanding to a troubled child they choose to lock them inside a room instead?! The things I witness and the things my kid would share with me and had to endure at this school were horrible. Thank goodness we found a way out.

The principal and a this guy next to him was laughing after my wife and I had a discussion about the track meet. I thought it was rude and disrespectful.
