Such a great place. My name is Roger Browning and I am the author of 'The Reckoning of Rance,' that is out on amazon right now. It's a novel about a dysfunctional family of inheritance, its setting that of a Texas ranch. It might not be a story for all, but I am sure that it is a story for most and I so enjoyed the writing of this one as I hope you enjoy reading it more. I am telling you this in relation to the museum, because the writing of the book brought me here. I was on a book signing tour in the area when it was recommended as a place to see. They were right. We drove out, took time for its story. Surveyed the old bullet holes to its fortress walls and enjoyed the cool of the day, even taking in a picnic there while tossing a few loops over the head of a roping dummy that sat the old museums back. We took in the boardwalk store front where I happily browsed the other Texas writers books, and thought about one day my book sitting alongside them there as well. I took a few books there that day, along with a soda pop, some jerky and a desert snack as well. We really enjoyed our time spent and it is well worth the slow down and visit I feel. Take time to hear its story. Imagine the surrounding village at a time it once alive then and there. and enjoy your time in the store and buy youself a good a souvenir as well. My name is Roger Browning and my book is 'The Reckoning of Rance.'
Very disappointed! Got here at 3:45pm and was told the last tour that is supposed to be at 4pm went out already. They are supposed to close at 5pm, but they were already closing up all of the buildings. Would have been a nice experience, but it seemed like the staff just wanted to leave to have a fun Saturday night. Make sure you call ahead of time.
We had a bit of time in Abilene while our RV was being serviced. The guys at Clear Creek RVs recommended Buffalo Gap to us. It was very interesting with many buildings to tour.
Great experience. Cool buildings and lesson on Texan history.
This was a fun day we spent with our family. We had persons from all age groups and we all had a great time. It is worth taking a short drive from Abilene and spending the afternoon.
