This museum is breathtaking. It has two huge rooms filled with all manner of military vehicles from horse drawn wagons and ammunition carts to Jeeps, tanks, armored personnel carriers, and field ambulances. They also have smaller military items and an inflatable helicopter that was used to trick enemy forces. Personalized, guided tours are provided by very knowledgeable guides who are usually members of the Museum’s Board of Directors personally appointed by the late Mr Werner who started the collection. We went with my three-year-old son and 73-year-old father-in-law and we all loved it! This is a must see.
What a great job of preserving heritage and showing what the military did for us in so many conflicts. Seen a lot of military heritage but saw stuff I've never seen before.nLucky to attend a private tour with a great guide, so passionate and knowledgeable about the subject. Loved it.
This place was a real surprised. My dad suggested we go, and I wasn't expecting much. There were many old military vehicles there, mostly Jeeps. Mark gave us a tour, and he knew more about the history of the Jeep than I thought humanly possible. He was so friendly in giving my family a tour, and was very interesting to listen to. He really made the history of military vehicles come alive. It is obvious that he and the other caretakers of this museum are passionate about preserving this piece of history. They are expanding their displays and trying to improve an already fun experience. It is free to the public, with a donation box (which I was happy to contribute). The hours can be a bit limited, so check the website and call the numbers listed before you go. Everyone there is a volunteer, so remember that. It is a great rainy day activity if you are in the Sewanee or Monteagle area. I highly recommend.
Great place to visit
My in-laws went and were amazed at all they had to show. They even had tanks!
