Fun, family friendly place to stop and stretch your legs.
Historical, educational and informational as well as beautiful! Very beautiful views!
The path from parking is paved and it is a short walk. The spot has a nice view of the waterway. There is a small parking space for an RV, but the short road is quite narrow. I would not take a large RV here. There isn't much to see but history.
I have not been here in over 40 years, but was a part of one of last archaeological digs prior to the stabilization. It appears to be on the water, but was actually up on a bluff so you could see up and down the Little Tennessee River. It served as the site for numerous treaties with the Cherokee and had a part in the Blount Conspiracy. Like others have said, you need to picture it when it existed and why it was there to fully understand it.
i find some reviews to be funny. like this place most people have no insight and all they see is a foundation (and there is a lot of foundation to see) and they can't get pass that. the people that give low rates to places like this i read their other reviews and i find most of their reviews are of hotels and chain restaurants. so now i understand why people like that have on insight. the fact that 224 years later the foundation is still here and with a little imagination you can see the rest of the fort. now take it a step further that this place was build during unsure times to help keep peace deep into Cherokee lands between the Cherokee and white settlers. can you imagine what life must of been like. that should be amazing itself. i stop here and spent a least 2 hours thinking about what it was like to build this place and live here. since my visit was in October (off season) i had it all to myself. so just to enjoy the peace and beauty of the land and water was alone worth the stop. across the bay is Fort Loudoun State Historic Area anotherawesome site to see only minutes away
