Missing animals in exhibits and the walk in exhibits are closed. The place could be super nice again with some more work too it like exhibit clean up pressure washing and sealing all the decks all in all I like it there they do need community support for more funding though.
I've been going to this zoo usually when I was in elementary and middle school, and I will say this zoo is pretty cool to go to. They had been struggling HARD financially, and it did go downhill for a little while, but I have faith that during the Covid-19 that we are in, it will get better. With that being said, if you are looking for a place to kill some time and get out of the house, this zoo is not a bad place to go.
The exhibits are no where fit for an animal. The animals are mostly kept all by themselves. There watering areas aren’t full or either have dirty water in them . The water animals as they call them are non existent. The giraffe is kept on Cement flooring and is giving dry dead grass placed on the fence while it has a clear view of the nice grass area beside the exhibit. There are tall rocks in most exhibits with no grass for the animals to walk on . So it is nothing like there original homes . There is a lot of work that needs to be done to this “zoo” . I would highly recommend that you do not spend your money here . You and your family or partner will be very disappointed by it .
Would not recommend anyone going to this zoo, only gave 1 star because you can’t give 0 on google. We drove 3 hours and this was one of our stops and we were all highly disappointed. I understand the pandemic has had an impact on everything but this zoo is a disgrace and shouldn’t even be called a zoo. Grounds are overgrown and out of shape. Most of the animals are lone animals when they should have a companion. For example, otters are pack animals and the Jackson Zoo only had 1 and its living area was awful with dirty/nasty water for it to swim in. Due to covid the inside attractions like birds, reptiles, and fish are closed but peering through the doors you can see how filthy they are letting the aquariums get. It was a cheap zoo experience but not worth it in my opinion and the animals do not belong in a place like that.
I had a wonderful time. I loved how close you could get to the animals. The park was clean, the animals seemed happy, and the staff were awesome. Actually Marrion (staff member) blew me and my family away with her animal knowledge and desire to teach.
