On an unassuming street, part of a neighborhood in the American South. You are reminded that a patch of ground, pivotal in the history of Civil Rights, is a reminder that horrendous acts are possible quite literally on ones doorstep. The home, bright blue paint against a clear morning sky, looked just like it did as those old images seen on documentaries and in books.I stopped to take a few pictures, and the homeowner next door was taking out the trash. Heartening to know that life goes on amongst the reverence.
Go. The access to a place in history this important is incredible. Walk the driveway. Take in the neighborhood. Learn the lessons and values of the life of Medgar Evers.
Great historical monument. Walking into this home really puts you in the moment in time. The host gave us so much back story on the family, the home and the events that we felt like we knew tbe Evers family personally. She reassured me that it was okay to nurse my toddler who was growing restless and made us feel so welcomed.
The home has been preserved very well over the years. It was a very somber experience to stand on the driveway where a good man was murdered. The visualization process was very difficult for me.
