Calvert County Sheriff

Went to the court house to pickup a copy of the police report from a car accident. After calling for days and unable to speak with a live person.nWhen I entered the building there was no one to ask questions or assist. I sat for about 30 minutes then realized there was a phone on the wall. I picked up the phone to speak with someone to explain why I was there, I was greeted my a person who must have been Having a horrible day, she was very rude, very short and treated me like a criminal. She repeatedly asked me why I came to the building to get the police report, I explained I had called (she told me I was calling the wrong number) I gave her the number and she said it was correct, I also explained I went online to see if I could get the report.. she told me I would need to wait while she contacted someone, now I have been there an hour. After waiting over an hour another person came to the front desk and explained they were trying to find the report. Another hour passes and finally an officer comes out to tell me there was something wrong with the report, the officer who was at the accident made a mistake and had to redo the report. I know my request was not a huge priority for the police department but it was a priority for me the tax payer. I kindly explained that I had been trying for weeks to get the report via the phone and on line. The officer was very apologetic and went back behind the doors, he came back and hour later with the report.nWhile I truly appreciate his assistance I am confused and frustrated why the Calvert county website offers the ability to obtain police reports via the web and the police officer told me that is incorrect, very misleading. Would be nice to post the process on how to obtain a police report after an accident. I surely feel i spent an enormous amount of unnecessary time tracking down this report for my car accident! Just a concerned citizen

I want to begin saying that neither I or anyone in my family is associated with Law Enforcement. However, in the opportunities, I have had over nearly 40 years of living in Calvert County, that all contacts with the Sheriff's Department or MD State Police, they have been courteous, professioinal and responsive. I do not know the particulars of the other reviews, but as recently as today, I had another positive experience.

Always professional. Very helpful every time I have needed them.

Since your department has made it virtually impossible to contact your office via email or through a formal complaint process, I am resorting to this.nnI and many others have noticed what appears to be a disproportionate number of vehicle searches of Black drivers in Calvert County. Many of these observations are anecdotal, as we have not conducted direct monitoring of all traffic stops nor have we reviewed your records; but even a casual observation would suggest that Blacks are targeted for car searches by your department. These stops are usually punctuated by multiple police vehicles, which only draw additional public attention to the over policing of Blacks that live in or are passing through Calvert County, the effect of which is:nn1.tTo send the message to Blacks that you are not welcome in Calvert County and will be subject to this level of harassment whenever any Sheriff’s Department officer chooses ton2.tTo let Blacks know that there are no equal protection laws that apply to them in Calvert County and that they can be subject to any form of mistreatment at the hands of the Calvert County Sheriff’s Department.n3.tTo humiliate Blacks in this public theater that reinforces stereotypes of black criminality and danger, which only aids in justifying law enforcements killing of unarmed blacks that pose no threat to themnnI could continue, but the point is made. Your department’s practices in this regard are racist, dangerous, humiliating, and in violation of equal protection laws that were intended to protect all citizens against entities like your department.nnIt would be great if you and your department have the ability to review your traffic stop protocols and be introspective enough to present an honest assessment to yourselves and the public. I won’t hold my breath, but we do notice. Don’t ever be confused about that.

Most people know how this county is. I know the workers from a personal, work, and enforcement level. I honestly feel the intentions are racist and unjust. In Calvert, there is white and there is everything else. Everything else is not welcomed and the department will very well show that to you. I was treated wayyyyy differently when I appeared whiter. Sure there is a good apple or two but they work under serval bad ones. I hate to claim racism but Calvert even smells racist lol. But really this town is straight trash. And there is not a good reason to visit unless you havvvvvvveeee to and tread carefully
