Another wonderful historic site to learn about Virginia's history and the founding of the country. The mansion tour was limited due to COVID restrictions. In the future, I would like to see the results of more research into Mason's slaves and how they lived. It's important that Virginia recognizes the immeasurable contributions of the slaves to the early history of the state.
George Mason was one of the Founding Fathers that, sadly, is somewhat neglected (like his memorial in DC) and when people go visiting historical sites they kind of forget his lived so close. Gunston Hall is a nice little estate that you should visit at least once. Staff is friendly and there is a lot of history. Somewhat close to Mt. Vernon so you can visit two great places in one day.
Beautiful, up-kept historic mansion! Welcome desk employee was friendly and tour guide was very knowledgeable! Highly recommend visiting this hole in a wall piece of American History in Lorton!
Small, but informative. The little museum gives a lot of information about the Father of the Bill of Rights.
What a hidden gem! It's so quiet and peaceful with no worry about crowds.. At least when we visited on a weekday. Definitely worth checking out to learn more about George Mason and his contribution to early American Government. It's smaller then Mount Vernon, but still neat to compare and learn about these contemporaries! We had a wonderful tour guide whose passion for her subject made us want to know more.
