Head a similar distance northwest rather than northeast and instead of downtown Atlanta you’ll cross the county border and reach the heart of Douglasville.nnThe county seat of Douglas County, this city is home to another important museum, dedicated to history and art.nnThe Douglas County Museum of History and Art doesn’t disappoint from the very start, since it can be found in a former courthouse that is a rare example of architecture’s ‘international style’.nnInside, the displays cover every aspect of the county’s history, with information on how European-American settlement first began in the region in the early 1800s leading to historic memorabilia from the early days of Coca-Cola.

One of Douglasville's underrated gems. I've driven by several times and thought what exactly could they have in there? Well It's bigger than it looks and more to see then you the think. It really is a local history museum with artifacts donated from prominent local families. The Black History Education collection was small, but very telling about the education system as it relates to POC in Douglasville. I really hope more families come forward and donate more than just educational heirlooms to tell more about the history on people of color in Douglasville. There also is a very small (extremely small) Native American Indian section. So hopefully more families will also donate more to improve that exhibit. The pop cultural collections are a must see!! I love that you had a tour guide. She was lovely and we felt like we were getting a behind the scenes personal tour. If you are a homeschool group or looking for something free to do with the kiddos this is a great little outing.
