The Berkeley Hotel

A charming boutique hotel in the heart of downtown Richmond. We loved how spacious the rooms were with enormous bathrooms and well appointed sitting areas. The lobby is small but has a beautiful dark paneled bar and an old world feel to it. The hotel is also close to numerous bars and restaurants in the historic area surrounding the hotel. Parking would be my only complaint since it is only on the street or at a nearby public garage. Not enough to take away a star but something of an inconvenience.

Definitely a two star hotel hanging on to it's four star status. After two days staying there, I shower to find a HUGE clump of hair on the shower wall in plain sight. Very apparent that the shower wasn't even rinsed out let alone clean. After tons of signs about higher standards due to COVID-19, I then instantly felt as if nothing was cl and in the room properly. No amenities at all without the restaurant being opened. Requested more towels and blanket, told I couldn't get more towels until I put them outside the door and only blanket they could give were in the room. They gave us THREE towels for two people and no extra blankets, with only two on the bed.nOne star for location, but there are others in the area.

There is no free parking. No hand soap , mini fridge, or microwave. I was told no valet, you have to park in a parking garage 1 street away. When a different front desk person checked us out he told us there was valet. He also told us you can request a fridge. I had the deluxe King room and the tub was a small and old. The front desk does not answer the phone but if you go down to the front desk she’s there behind the wall when you ring the bell. If you don’t care for amenities or customer service and need to lay your head down it’s perfect. We ended up at the hotel across the street. 2 starts because the guy that checked is out was very helpful.

The location is great, though it doesn't have the amenities that you would expect a 4 star hotel to have. 2 and 3 star hotels offer more than this one, still... Not bad. You also have to pay for parking at a garage.

I am currently a guest at this hotel.nnI called downstairs to request a late check out (9:10am), and was told by Alfreda, the hotel manager, that she could only give me 30 minutes. I then asked her how much it would cost for a 2pm checkout (2 hours) and was told an entire day.nnShe then said she would give me an additional hour for half a day of a day rate, and the rate for that was $69, with a whole day rate of $149. So regular checkout being 12noon, I will pay $69 to leave at 1pm, and $149 to leave at 2pm.nnI went to your site, looked online and saw that your rate for today is $98. I called her back and told her this information, and she said I needed to click on the retail rate. THERE IS NO WAY FOR ME TO DO THAT!!nnI asked her to navigate me to the retail rate options, which she obviously cannot.nnAt this point, I requested to speak with another manager, and was told she would give my information to Mr. Miller. The problem with that is, she doesn't even know my name. The room was checked in by my wife, and she never bothered to ask who I was.nnThe customer service here is horrible, I will never stay here again.nnIt's not like she has a large quantity of guests, I checked availability and it's a lot. During this pandemic, one would think they would like to hold onto guests, I guess that's not the case here.
