Careless and not helpful with psychological issues. Went there multiple times for mental issues till I had enough of their poor practice. Each appointment felt like they just wanted to push me out the door and be a pill pusher. Each appointment was less then 10 minutes! That's pitiful for helping anyone. Even the main doctor (christianson) was the same way. STAY AWAY FROM HERE if you are looking for actual help.

Just do yourself a favor and try thenprograms at Sentara in Harrisonburg, or travel to Lexington where the whole town is bored af, but still as professional as one can expect.nI always get good friendly medical service there.

In terms of their level knowledge and professionalism (on the most basic level), I have been satisfied and feel I can trust the care I receive there.nnIf you, like me, go there because you don't really have a choice, I hope that this review will help you as you weigh your options.nnI've been seeing a psychiatric professional at Shenandoah Psychiatric for about a year now, and I go there due to a lack of options for psychiatric care in this geographical this area, which is why I suspect they still stay fairly busy.nnIn terms of the personal treatment of the patients who come in, its rather pitiful, I'm afraid. In my own experience, I have been called the wrong name by the person who treats me every single time. The administrative staff are very short and unfriendly and lack the very basic decorum one should have in front of psychiatric patients (i.e., speaking openly and unkindly about other patients, never greeting patients, treating them as if they are interrupting more important work).nnIf you decide to receive care there, and you have a similar experience, just know that it shouldn't be that way and that it has nothing to do with you, but that it's probably a symptom of the health care system at large.

The whole office is very rude and unprofessional I'm usually one not to complain but I could never get my medicine filled and ended up really sick until I saw a new doctor which took a month and clearly I wasn't on the right medication anyway and was treated like I have a drug problem when I've NEVER did drugs in my life and I absolutely hate taking medication now as it is I highly recommend not going to this office they wouldn't fill my prescription but was quick to send me a bill I guess I'll do like them lie and say I never got the request or they have to send it a different way so I'll get it either way I'll pay it when I get good and ready and this one star they don't even deserve period this is the second time I've left their office and my last time going there as well the rudeness when you call was enough for me to lose it and had I did my homework and read the reviews I would have never went back the second time when looking for a doctor people check their reviews before making a appointment because what people say is usually correct and you may not see it at first but it will show in time this doctor really didn't show he cared or was there to help me he just showed he wanted my money and to treat me like a addict smh I see why he has his own practice because no office with other doctors or company would allow such mess and I'm surprised he still has a business

As with any professional medical building, there are several people you must deal with at Shenandoah Psychiatric. Dr. Kane is the lead clinician. He also oversees Crossroads and Western State. He is a good doctor and well qualified for the imposing position he is called to fill. Under him is Melanie Morris. I am unsure of her expertise, but she too is a kind and seeming knowledgeable individual. Both of these people truly desire to help their patients in the best ways they know, even if they are a bit harsh at times. The office administration at the front desk is primarily kind. I think even they all have some sort of health care education as they are the ones who administer drug screening when it becomes necessary. I had very few problems with this provider. That is highly unusual for mental health agencies in Northwest Virginia. I have extensive experience in my professional relationship with, I dare say, most of them. I can't realistically hope for much more than Shenandoah Psychiatric provides. The norm in this area is going into a cold building and dealing with colder people and hope you get that one bright face that likely keeps the place from being sued. Here, it's all just not bad. There is nothing substantial about them other than they don't suck. I would recommend seeking services at this establishment if you find yourself needing mental health services in Augusta County.
