I recently had social-media dialogue with CEO Mark Zervos in which he seemed to be fetishizing the abolishment of birthright citizenship—a fundamental right under Section 1 to the 14th Amendment to the Constitution. As a civil-rights lawyer, to my ear, the dialogue—and Mr. Zervos's peculiar passion for the subject—made me wonder and concerned about whether Mr. Zervos and his company would discriminate against naturalized American citizens, the American-born children of immigrants (like myself), and non-whites in the buying and selling of real estate. He simply seemed too gleeful at the prospect of people like me—born in America to immigrants—being citizens by birth.nnAs a consequence of Mr. Zervos's professed attitudes and combative, arrogant nature in expressing them, I would not ever do business with this company or recommend that people of color, naturalized U.S. citizens, the children of immigrants, or people of goodwill who believe in America's fundamental values ever do business with this man or his company.nnThat's my humble opinion.
