I don't usually leave reviews, however my experience living in this building has been so bad I feel compelled to warn others. The management team is only there to sign leases. Using the word inept to describe them would be too kind. If you reach out to management with a problem they will ignore calls, e-mails and even if you go to the office in person they'll find a way to ignore you or provide poor customer service in their handling of the matter.nnThe building is poorly built, you can hear sounds so easily between units adjacent and above. As an example you can hear other residents phones vibrating on other floors, so just imagine other sounds. They do not maintain the building properly. The elevator routinely has issues and the cleanliness of common areas is subpar compared other new buildings I've lived in. Someone vomited in the elevator and they cleaned that off the floor eventually but months later the splatter is still on the elevator door.nnThere are ongoing issues with the garage door that they are slow to fix, this has caused break ins and theft with items being stolen from cars and packages from the mail room going missing.nnFor what they charge to live here, you'd think maintenance, security, and customer service would be better but it's ran like social housing. I urge any prospective tenants to look elsewhere. There are many other new buildings in the Short North that rent for a similar price that offer more amenities and better customer service.
My roommate and I lived in the The Jerome for a year before moving to another Borror property. Overall, we both enjoyed living there, particularly the location, which is hard to beat. The office staff were always very sweet and responsive, and if someone didn't have the answer to our questions, they were able to get us in touch with the right person and I enjoyed (and still enjoy) working with them all.nnIn the winter, our unit flooded, and it was uninhabitable for about 7 weeks while Borror worked with a contractor to restore the unit. As this was the first incident of this sort at The Jerome, Borror hired the first company they could get out to repair our unit. While the contractor themselves were unprofessional and extremely slow, the Borror staff recognized this and were very apologetic in their choice, and completely understood our frustration. The head maintenance guy had high standards and ended up doing a lot of the work himself, and I was really impressed with his dedication and the fact that he was on site in our apartment nearly everyday. At this point there was no way to change the contractor, but the staff at Borror made the experience as painless as possible for me and my roommate: they set us up in a unit down the hall, were very open to conversations about finances and reparations, and kept us updated on progress. Even when I called the property manager nearly every day, she was extremely friendly but also candid and kept our expectations realistic, which I greatly appreciated. It was discovered that the unit flooded due to a design flaw that has since been fixed.nnAs for our unit in The Jerome, it was very comfortable for a 2 bed/2 bath in the Short North, and I feel it was fairly priced given the location, appliances, amenities, and other factors. The sun deck and grills (which are really great quality gas Kitchen Aid grills) are a major plus. I felt the unique decorations in the halls made for a really cute boutique feel, and the common spaces and hallways were always clean and orderly. We now live in another apartment also owned and operated by Borror, and couldn't be happier!
Could not have been happier to move out!! So many things wrong with this place it is tough to start. The one elevator for the whole building is a big drawback, especially since it was broken at least once or twice a month the entire time we lived there. Hauling groceries up flights of stairs gets old when you pay that much. We also struggled with guest parking, an often broken garage door, items disappearing from the lobby, and a very unresponsive office staff. In the end even though we were model tennents and left a pristine apartment, they charged us $40 for paint and took well over the 30 days to refund our deposit. (which is illegal under Ohio law) Rent here at your own risk.
Luckily, Columbus is a heaven to find decent, new apartments, The Borror Jerome is one of them but with the worst property management ever. Stayed more than a year but I have to say very AMATEUR, poor management team of the apartment was overwhelming.. There is huge lack of communication and they never take any responsibility nor find a solution. I really felt like they are trying to rip-off their residents instead of protecting them. Heard similar comments from other residents as well. If you want to completely deal with miscommunication and ready to pay for unnecesary expenses, The Borror Jerome is for you.
