Looks like others are appalled at the behaviors of your officers. They harassed and tried to trump up charges on a car parked. They were resting so as to not drive tired...to be safe. You had no right to talk or treat citizens in that manner. What is happening to our police. The the officer that was the biggest bully stated, “you cannot film me without my permission and if I see it posted anywhere I am going to sue you,” this officer should be disciplined for threatening a person for a first amendment protected right. That was intimidation. I would like to see a response to your officers behaviors and how you plan to re-educate and teach your officers their job and what is legal. I doubt you even read your google reviews, so let’s see what happens, if no response then that tells me your department does not care about its citizens and does not look on google reviews to see how their department is being viewed by the public.

Mt. Pleasant PD can do well with some continued training on public photography, vehicle code, constitutional law, community relations, department policy and general orders, and anti-gang behavior within ranks. The police blocked in a car in a parking lot without suspicion of a crime. They were detaining them for taking photos. This is a violation of the 1st amendment for free press. By detaining them, they were seizing them without a reason, i.e. a violation of the 4th amendment. When I called to complain, the officer on the phone would not identify himself, take my complaint, or transfer me to someone who would. Anyone who is planning an event in Mt. Pleasant should contact the chamber of commerce and cancel and let them know why you cancelled.
