I know some Officers gather very early for breakfast - while off duty of course. Can I (under these very trying times) put a thank you card in a jar for breakfast donations? We so appreciate all officers care, devotion, attention to our safety, keep speeders under wraps for our good & leave their families every day for our benefit. Please tell me if I can do this in various locations around Vernon. They all mean the world to us & so hope this negativity about our law enforcement team will cease - they are there for us; not for them. I also was subjected to a traffic violation, but they were correct in stopping me ftom harming myself and/or others. Job very well done! Signed: A very sincere Highland Lakes resident.

Saw the review for our PD being way to low, never have had a bad experience with our officers. When I was about 14 I had one drive me and my friends back home at 12 am and on the ride he would pull over for us to catch Pokémon on our phone game, had multiple nice conversations with them and today had a nice guy help open my car when the keys were locked inside. Proud to know my community has good officers that actually serve the community when needed.

Nothing but positive things to say for the VPD. They put themselves in harms way to keep us safe, that’s honorable. People are quick to complain about LE, the dog situation is one example. Maybe the officer made a mistake. Haven’t we all? Is it right to look down on the man and department for it or should we be grateful he was available to help in any way he could? They work overnight, they miss Christmas, Thanksgiving and plenty of other holidays back home with their wives, kids, families. Sometimes they don’t come home at all. They could do whatever career they want, but choose this service. For their sacrifice, I think it’s rather fair to get a straight 5 star rating.

Why in the world do cops need to use family pets as target practice? Does killing an innocent animal make them feel like heroes? Actually that makes them big fat zeros in my book. I am a big supporter of our law enforcement but when they murder our 4 legged family members, all respect goes out the window.

I have been living in Vernon for 15yrs. the Vernon police are down to earth great human beings. they are not out to harass and collect they are working to serve and protect. the dog situation is very sad. I tried to put myself in the officer's position and I might have tried pepper spray first before shooting. but I wasn't there to determine if he had time to react with spray. but I do know that if he did nothing but shoe the dog away and it bit your 3yr old child the people who are mad at the officer would be changing there opinion about the officers actions. nobody wants to hurt a dog for target practice or for just because it was fun to do.
