This is a very well done memorial, available again now that the CoVid Testing Center at the Arts Center is closed. There's an educational center on site too, but that's closed due to the Rona. The memorial space is wheelchair accessible throughout. The website is available to explain its architecture and worth it to understand the design and orientation. Pleased to be able to visit it on Independence Day 2020. Freedom is not Free!

The open-air memorial featuring the names of New Jersey residents who were killed during the war is quiet and reflective and thoughtfully organized. I was pleased to find a well designed and suitably impressive memorial. They shall not be forgotten.nnThe on-site museum features both the permanent display and special exhibits. At the time of my visit I found a beautiful display of New Jersey Congressional Medal-of-Honor recipients, with their actual medals on display along with biographies. This provided an unexpected bonus and a rare privilege. The permanent exhibit can be described as a timeline of the two Americas. The America that that went to war in Vietnam/Cambodia/Laos and the America fighting a cultural/political conflict at home. An outstanding amount of thought went into this.nnProviding a tour of the site are a group of Vietnam Veterans. These men are our neighbors, teachers, fathers and now grandfathers. They alone are worth the trip! I arrived knowing my history, but I learned numerous things along the way that made me immediately pause our guide so I could ask for further details, which they gladly shared.nnTake the time to ready the letters on display to and from those young men in combat (average age 19). They bridge the divide between those two American worlds from that 1955-1975 period. This was an afternoon very well spent, and I absolutely plan on returning.nnYour thoughts about the war aside …nWe need to open ourselves up to its lessons, good and bad. More importantly, we all need to take a moment to WELCOME HOME those who were swept up in it!
