Went a few days ago and I got to say, I was very disappointed. I don't know what it is with restaurants quality going down the drain as years go by! On The Border was THE place to go for years! Great service, great food, but not anymore! The rice is dry and tastes like it was made days ago and reheated. The black beans were as bland as can be! I didn't see any traces of onion or cilantro in them! The enchiladas with cream sauce were another bland disappointment, and no, the sliced jalapeño on top does not jazz things up! Our table of 5 went for lunch and the restaurant was not busy at all so either the chef was sleeping or he just gave up. The ONLY reason I'm giving them 3 stars is because of the service and the chips and salsa. At least that's one thing that tastes the same, but chips and salsa aren't going to save a failing restaurant during a pandemic!! You gotta step up your game On The Border, the competition in Vernon Hills is growing!!
Armando was a fabulous server. He’s friendly and helpful. Steak tacos, portobello bowl and guacamole were all delicious.nDownside were the filthy floors and layers of food between booths. Bathroom could be freshened up. I expected everything to be sparkling clean since business has been so slow.
Me personally, I thought the food was good. We sat at a table and the table was really nice. The atmosphere was really cool and I liked the music they played. I was eating with my father and he had the fish tacos. He, did not like the fish tacos. He hated the fish tacos, said it was the worst fish tacos he ever had. But he did end up like the steak that he got after the tacos.
Staff is always super friendly and polite. Recommended.
This restaurant is great for lunch. Whenever I go there the food is really good and the servers are so friendly. Great job On The Border!
