I live in Overland, MO, & I come here to Alton a few times, to travel to Chicago, & back, whenever I have the money to go. I have family up there. I like the New Alton Amtrak Train Station, it's Nice, & has plenty of space for parking, buses, pick-up/drop-off for passengers, etc. In my opinion, The Alton Station has MORE Parking put together, than the Downtown St. Louis Station, & plus it's much QUIETER to hear yourself think, LoL.! But, I give the Alton Station a 100% Rating.
It’s a new station with good facilities. Keep in mind trains may be delayed and/or early. Getting dropped off/picked up was a breeze though.
The station is very nice, however Amtrak's on time performance is awful. They would be better off just posting the train departure times an hour or two back so they start respecting their customer's time. Right now, they couldn't care less.
The new station is very nice. Lots of indoor and outdoor seating.nInside many places to charge phones. Nice big screen displaying time.nOur train was on time and was easy to get on from the station.nRestrooms were big and clean.
Everyone rates this station 1 star because of the following:nDirections took them to old station.nLate train.nDidn't realize the lobby opens a little later than usual.nWOW!nThis station is fancy, new, big, tons of seats, and good parking.nIf you take the early train and the station isn't open, there is a bypass area on the left so you can get to the platform. But who pays attention to those little details, right!nThe late train reviews are the people's fault, not the station.nThe directions are not the fault of the station.nThis station is perfectly fine and its the people on google who are the cause of it's low rating.nThere is even a little interpretive area inside that shows the history of the area. Too bad people don't pay attention or this station would have a 5 star rating.
