Updated for Sept 2020: I can’t begin to tell you how impressive and important this little museum is, and trust me when I say it is WELL worth your investment and time to take a tour. Definitely 5-STAR recommended.nnReview from 2015: What a truly wonderful surprise and well worth seeing. If touring the nearby Campus Martius museum do this first, as it'll give you a chance to see the W.P. Snyder and grounds exhibits while the sun is hitting their 'good side' for photography purposes, beat the crowds, and while the morning is still cool and comfortable. Lots of great steamboat and paddleboat models, paintings, and artifacts. A definitive Must-see while in Marietta!
Loved the tour. It was very informative and worth the money.
Awesome place to come visit. You can bundle this tour with the Campus Martius tour. Definitely a must see if you are visiting Marietta, OH. Both places have wonderful information about the history of Marietta and those who lived there. I highly recommend bringing the family along for a fun day of American history.
We thoroughly enjoyed our time on the river boat ride and then the museum. We only wish the gift shop had more gifts for kids. My son was looking for a model boat or ship to add to his collection. It was really hard for him to look at all the cool steam boat models in the museum and not be able to get something along those lines at the gift shop. But he still really had a good time.
This is a nice little museum that includes a tour of a paddle wheel tug on site. There is more here than expected and the price is reasonable. You can charter the Valley Gem close by for river excursions. They have made appropriate arrangements for COVID19 restrictions as well. There is some amazing history that is unique to the area and would like to return someday to include with some other local places.
