Fairfax Stone State Park

Interesting history spot. Nice random stop to a random day.

Wasn't expecting much. But was still disappointed. The historical part was nice but nothing to go out of the way for. Looked like a nice place to bring side by side out to.

This place is really for history buffs!

We drove 3 miles to see the Fairfax Stone, not knowing what we'd find. The place delivered on the stone, a neat marker from pre-Revolutionary times, but also gave us - surprise! - the mouth of the Potomac River! Such a tiny trickle becomes a mighty river, it's an inspiring metaphor & much needed in these dark times. Go ahead & take the little 15 minute diversion down the road, it's worth it.

It's just a stone, so don't expect too much. But it's historical significance is pretty impressive. Interesting to think someone carved that stone that long ago and that such an important river starts right there.
