We need to talk about economic growth! Memphians, we must educate ourselves on how state and local government collect taxes: gas and cigarettes taxes are two ways of funding our local government. Low income communities, those free programs aren't really free. When taxes are raised on items predominantly, used by black people, you're paying for those programs. Those taxes are a contribution to Memphis, and don't let anyone tell you, anything different.
