This is a great place to learn more about Appalachian history. It is a pioneer village built mostly by Scott High School students, who also maintain the grounds and take care of the animals. There are miniature horses, goats, a cow, chickens, rabbits, fish, snakes, and a parakeet. There is a really cool building especially for kids, complete with tube slide, play pit and various rooms designed around S.T.E.M. activities. This particular building can also be rented for children's parties.nnThe entire complex is funded completely by donations. We attended their annual heritage festival a couple years ago and truly enjoyed it. Admission is free, and there was live music, and several vendors with fantastic home-cooked food and crafts. It's a few miles from interstate 75 but well worth the drive for the festival!
Best steak i have had in years! Was also impressed they took customer temps upon entry. Although they could have spaced our table seating better. Nice Harley display at entry.
So this is a hidden gem in my book... The skills and the lessons that they teach the students and anyone else willing to listen are fast becoming a lost art form.. I would love to spend more than one day here learn g all the skills and brushing up on how to become a woodsman.
Students did almost everything
Visiting the Museum of Scott County was like uncovering a treasure. There is a plethora of historical artifacts on display in the various buildings. As an educator, I was impressed with the Education Center. It is perfect for students in the Early Childhood Grades because it has so many hands on experience activities that kids would love. There's a grocery store, Legoland, library, small fish aquarium, snakes and rabbits to feel and hold if you desire, and an inside slide that empties into a pit filled with foam pieces for a soft landing.
