I took my family here before the pandemic. I spoke with the curator, Colin for over an hour. He actually went to school with Pete Best. the original drummer for the Beatles. It was a pretty cool place and the fact that the guy running it had a Liverpool accent and could tell us stories about seeing the Beatles play in the Cavern Club as teen was awesome. They have John Lennon's long underwear on display! Such a cool place and it's free!!
It was nice but I thought it would of been bigger than just one room. Even though there was a lot of Beatles memorabilia in cases and on the walls. It's tucked away in the back of an art gallery. They even had pictures and articles with the original drummer and bass player. And it's free.
Fun stop in a cool town. I’m sorry that I forget the host’s name, but he was excellent. We talked about the Beatles and other artists, too. I was probably only there for 30 minutes, but I’m glad I went. There is no admission fee; it runs on donations. Based on what these collectors items must cost on top of rent, etc., I feel okay that I dropped $10 in the bucket but it was probably worth more now that I think about it. If you dig the Beatles and you’re in Dunedin you must go!
Small but free! If you’re in Dunedin and want to see evidence of the mass marketing machine that was behind the Beatles, definitely drop in. Beatles themed paddleballs, ballpoint pens, adhesive tape and even mothballs. Yes, the Fab4 had official mothballs in their merchandising strategy.
I went there with my neice Cindy, Colin the curator and Cindy both went back and forth on there knowledge of the Beatles, along with personal stuff from Colin . great guy. He made our visit extra special. Thank YounSee ya soon
