Loved seeing the animals and loved looking at the exhibits. Only problem was that the place was huge and at one point we lost my grandfather and we never ended up finding him. But other than that it was a great experience and I would definitely visit again. Anyways RIP Grand Poppy Bob.
Very easy to find. There were lots of one way paths, everybody for the most part was social distancing. There were a few attractions that were indoors , the staff did an excellent job of limiting the amount of people into the building. It could have been even better if a canopy or umbrellas were set up, so while waiting we could be out of the sun. We had a good time and would recommend.
Understanding the pandemic has caused major stress on attractions throughout the city, the zoo has done just okay. Yes, timed passes, masks, single direction signage and social distancing are great, but that is only one facet. The condition of a few of the exhibits and animal enclosures were clearly in need of attention. Specifically the cleanliness of the sea lion and otter tanks as well as the great apes. Again, understanding things have changed is one thing, but dirty pools and mice running around inside the ape/baby enclosure seems an easy to address issue.
While many of the exhibits are closed due to remodeling and repairs, my family was not disappointed in the activities we were able to do. The Mane Cafe is still open and serving what I thought was a good lunch, and refilled our tanks. No indoor seating is available, but there is plenty of outdoor seating. Watching the kids interact with the California Sea Lions, Orangutans, and hearing the lion bellow was certainly the highlight of the trip. I would recommend the Zoo still. Make sure to wear comfortable shoes, bring water to drink, and plan on taking your time. There are only a certain amount of entry passes given each day, so make sure you plan ahead accordingly. There are plenty of hand sanitizing stations throughout the park.
This zoo is simply amazing. It has a great conservation efforts and it has the most diverse animal collection. Staff is nice, gave me cookies because my mom was a FONZ member. I have been coming to this zoo since the old hippo and giraffe days and will continue for a while!
