Skyrail Rainforest Cableway

Skyrail is an amazing experience whether you’re a tourist visiting for the first time or a local looking for a fun weekend out. When first looking at the options online I’m sure many people question if it’ll be worth the money, after doing the return trip I can confidently say yes! First of all, I travelled alone and was very happy when I was given a cable car to myself rather than being grouped in with another booking. I was also impressed at the way the cars were designed, they have small grates underneath the seats and windows that drop down at either side which allowed for a beautiful cool breeze to travel through as you glide over the treetops. As well as this, I found them to be incredibly stable, being on my own and moving from side to side to take photos, I was expecting to have the car swing and move about, I was very surprised when I felt little-to-no movement, it felt very safe and helped a lot considering I do get motion sick. There are two stops on your trip, one at Red Peak Station and one at Barron Falls. Both have short boardwalks, lookouts and some information on display. I found the boardwalk to be absolutely beautiful, it’s a great stop to take photos with the family and you are able to duck to the bathrooms if you feel the need. Lastly, I found their staff to be incredibly welcoming. I interacted with about a dozen people on my return trip and found each to be kind and courteous, many of them even remembered who I was on the way back down and that is quite impressive considering how many people they interact with in a day. Overall the view on the trip is absolutely indescribable, photos don’t do it justice, it’s something you have to see with your own eyes to truly appreciate it. This experience exceeded all my expectations and I cannot recommend it enough.

Worth a visit if you're in Cairns. I'd recommend the Skyrail one direction, scenic rail the other, but Skyrail is slightly quicker if you're on a timetable. Nice and airy in the gondolas and a beautiful view of the rainforest. The stops have some great views of Barron falls and the gorge as well.

I loved this ride. I did it when it first opened years ago and it was great then, but now it is even better with 2 stops along the way to see more and to take Photos. Karanda has a lovely markets and shops also to relax at.

Absolutely must to visit place either with kids or without. If you have good heat tolerance, take a historical train on your way back. Otherwise, round-trip with Skyrail will leave only positive memory.
