Malt Dining

Absolutely amazing.. best dinner we’ve ever had in Brisbane. So many flavours...like an eating adventure, been hard to eat “normal” food since. Loved the Kingfish, and the Cauliflower Roast ( sorry chef, I know it was called something fancier) and the killer deserts. Such unique combinations. Service was really good too, especially the menu explanations.

We came with high expectations. However, the dining experience was very underwhelming. Overall, the place is very much a bar rather than fine dining, except its price. The dining area had a wired unpleasant smell resembling cat litter, for real. The quail we ordered tasted okay but the dish is comparable to Korean Fried Chicken garnished with caned jalapeños and baby corns. It’s just not something you would expect from a fine dining restaurant. The charcoal beef was a total disappointment. The cut was cheap, although well cooked, the texture was very tough and difficult to chew and even slice through. The meat was poorly seasoned. The elements seem very random with a few plain baby carrot scattered on top and a casual scoop of so-called avocado whip which really looks and tastes like sauce from takeaway boxes. The menu was very poorly designed with very limited options of food. Service wise there were two waiters/waitresses looking after the entire dining area. When we arrived with booking in advance, we waited for 5min and had to make a phone call to the reception to have someone taking us up eventually.

We were greeted by a bar staff member who was so friendly and so attentive. When our table was available upstairs a birthday card was given to my son for his 21st, signed by the staff. The wait staff were amazing, so friendly and so accommodating and they knew their food. They were like friends. We, as a family of five had a great time. The food was superb.

The wine pairings were perfect and the food was amazing, with flavours paired that I have not tasted before but all worked well. The staff were lovely, knowledgable and fun. We all can not wait to go back later in the year and try the summer menu. The restaurant also has a lovely atmosphere with brick walls and high wooden ceilings.
