So I debated with myself for a while before giving the Flotel hotel 4 stars. Finally because a few cons were personal (big spiders on the deck) as well as because I could not give 3.5 stars rating and because customer service was very good, I decided to upgrade to a 4 star rating.
There are a lot of pros but also quite a few cons for this hotel.
First and foremost, it is quite a small room. Yes it is snugged but that also means there is no room to sit and eat unless you are sitting on the deck... with the crawlers.
And that means that the person sleeping near the back wall of the queen bed, which is enclosed on 3 sides, has to climb over the other person to get out.
The bed, and basically everything else, is made for tall people. I actually had to jump to get on the bed, the mirror in the bathroom shows only the very top of my head, and my husband, who is 6 feet tall, could barely reach the mini-fridge located in the top cabinet over the single bed.
I mentioned the good customer service: they usually answer to texts quickly and they were very patient with my many questions. Also they were able to accommodate my diet requirements for the breakfast box that I ordered, which was really appreciated. The food provided would have been perfect, however the box was delivered day of arrival instead of the morning after. So the croissant and chocolatine were unfortunately a bit stale. At least everything else was absolutely delicious. I also wish there would have been napkins and paper plates included with the box.
One of my favourite things was the deck. It is simply amazing to get out of the room to be on the water. And the view is beautiful! The deck is quite spacious and includes 2 “love seats” as well as a foyer with gas fueled flames. Quite romantic and it helps keep you warm on chilly nights. Ducks seem to love to visit us, probably looking for food!
Just beware of the spiders and other crawlers if you are a city girl like me!
Finally, three last cons: first, the highway is really close and it sounds like it’s also the main road for fire trucks and ambulances. And they have no issues about using their sirens at 5am. Trucks use that road a lot too, they were waking me up starting around 4am.
The second is the bathroom: it’s so small that when you take a shower, the whole bathroom gets wet. So you have to dry it after each shower. Also, it might be there is only one tank of hot water for the 6 rooms. I took my shower around 10pm and I had barely lukewarm water. When my husband took his shower at 9:45am the morning after, there was no hot water at all. Only ice cold water. Talk about a wake up call!
The third, and this one might not affect a lot of people, is that there is no space between the queen bed and the back wall as mentioned before. That means the person sleeping next to that wall has no space to “park” his/her CPAP machine. Since both my husband and I have sleep apnea, one of us had to sleep in the single bed and plug her machine all the way back to the Queen bed since there was no electrical outlet near the single bed. And let me tell you, that futon is hard for older bones!
This was interesting and different. I’m glad we tried it and I’m not really sorry about the cons since we were there just one night. Not sure if I would do it again though, especially at that price: 250$ in total (on a week night), that at least included taxes, extra fee for cleaning and 38$ for the continental breakfast box for two.
First time I came here it was amazing experience. The room were clean, it was nice and cozy, everything was supplied. Like a mini fridge , towels and etc. But the only judgment I would say is they REALY!??!? Need to clean the deck!!! Get Rid of the spider webs and flies cut in them😕 it’s very disgusting .. make it look presentable .. but other than that everything was amazing and great! I would definitely return again 🙌🏾.
Nice concept, nice deck but nothing to attach your boat, we had issue with the toilet and door would get jam everytime, water would get one the floor, a bit pricey for what you get, would not go back unless there was an upgrade in the amenities. Overall experience was O.K!
Very small but the view is great. Wish there be a BBQ on the deck with a picnic table. And it was very got to sleep.
If you are looking for a hotel with top of the line amenities you might as well go on down the road. This is an experience not a hotel. The rooms are small it’s basically an old tin shipping can turned into floating rooms right on the water. The room has everything you’ll need. It’s clean. Lots of towels. Shower. A small fridge but that’s it. You can swim right off the deck. The water is clear and clean. I’d suggest bringing a floaty I forgot mine and regretted it. You can rent boats, kayaks, paddle boards, etc right next door. Just ask for Carl! The view is stunning! You can sit on the deck with a wine or beer watch the yachts go by and enjoy an incredible sunset. On the back of the hotel is a stretch of bars, shopping, restaurants, grocery stores and night life. It’s the best of both worlds. I’d return in a heart beat! I only gave 4 stars because I felt the flotel is missing a few basic amenities. There is no privacy and a simple screen between rooms would help that. There is no air conditioning and the ventilation is not great. A small air conditioner could solve that problem. You share the deck on the roof with your neighbour and there was only 2 chairs up there, could use a few more. It would also be nice to see a small table on the deck for food and drinks. I would still highly recommend this place. It was an unforgettable experience. Can’t wait to return!
