The Westin Nova Scotian

I booked this place for my anniversary since I've had great experiences with Marriott in the past. The location downtown is great but this place was a little bit of a let down. This place was formerly the Nova Scotian and later taken over by the Westin brand. They're trying to combine the visual aesthetic of the original with the broader brand and ruining both in the process. The room was pretty standard, but the bathroom was very small and cramped. The bathtub had rust stains and the water pressure from the shower was minimal at best (although this may have been a function of being up on floor 11). The bed was comfortable though, and I slept very well. Our room was on the harbour side so it was a pretty good view. We decided to try out the pool and was quickly disappointed. The pool itself was frigid, too cold to stay in for more than a minute or two. The whirlpool/hot tub was more of a warm swirl. Only one jet was working and it seemed like it has been running for 15 years and now too tired to really push the water out anymore. The showers in the changing room were only slightly warmer than the water in the pool. To top off our stay, while checking out, I was asked if I would like it charged to the card used for the booking. I said yes, but they still ended up charging the card I used to pay for the parking. Not a big deal, but it just felt careless.

This hotel embodies what I'd consider a good representation of Halifax: Classic flair, modernized. Bathrooms and furniture are updated to modern comforts, but the room layouts have this timeless charm of pre-corporate design, which is nice. My only gripe with the place is that the sheets are, in my opinion, excessively starched and quite stiff. It does make for impeccable presentation, though.

We didn't stay at the hotel but we had drinks and food from the bar, outside on the patio. The food was amazing. But kudos really go to our server, Andrew. This young man couldn't have done enough for us. Very accommodating, very attentive and very professional. Extremely warm and hospitable. I can't say enough about what a wonderful experience it was. One of the best dining experiences I've ever had. We plan to go back next Friday night!

Attended the Westin for a work event. Staff was very organized and helpful when dealing with a large crowd. I have always had great experiences here. Food was delicious :)

Beautiful hotel but the staff is what make it!!! Wonderful front staff and restaurant staff. They truly go above and beyond. Thank you!!!!
