I stopped in Loma Loro late one afternoon and watched a pair of scarlet macaws circling the area and land in the trees. We stayed and watched the sunset, which was spectacular, and later watched a lightning storm out over the Pacific. Definitely worth stopping to enjoy the view if you’re in the area.

Loma Loro, meaning "Parrot Hill" or "Parrot Knoll", is a beautiful area about 15 minutes off the main road (Costanera Sur) to Jaco, and just past the Pura Vida Gardens. You pass through Loma Loro on the way to the small town of Bijagual. Loma Loro is a natural area that borders the Carera National Park so there is a lot of wildlife to be seen including white faced monkeys, pisotes (coatis), toucans, and scarlet macaws. There is a nice view of the Gulf of Nicoya, the islands, and the Nicoya Peninsula. One can watch the cruise ships come in to port, and the sun setting over the ocean is beautiful.
