Marktbrunnen - A renaissance fountain at Markt (market place) of Mainz, sculptured by Hans Backoffen, represents one of the first architectural decorated fountains of the renaissance.

In Mainz, on the market square, there is a very special fountain of its kind. This market fountain is one of the first architecturally shaped ornamental fountains of the Renaissance, and is considered one of the most important of its kind. Not only is it beautifully designed and just something to look at, it also served as a source of fresh water for the city in its day ... The inscription that was attached to the fountain is in Latin script, but what you can recognize without knowing Latin is the date of origin, which is a bit confused to see. On the left side of the inscription is ANNOM, on the right side the Roman number DXXVI can be seen. In connection with the M, this number written in Roman results in the year 1526. The fountain, in connection with the cathedral, makes a beautiful photo motif, there you have a lot of historical things to see in one picture ...
