Very beautiful Art Nouveau fountain in memory of the opera singer Anna Sutter who was murdered in 1910.

One of my favorite places in Stuttgart. The fountain seems almost inconspicuous next to the impressive opera, so I "discovered" it only after years. He stands in a quieter area of the Eckensee, if you take your time you can discover many details on the statues. There are seating areas next to it.

A fountain that has the philosophical theme of destiny as a motive, can arouse curiosity on its design. Flowing water may already seem symbolic, creating an association with the time that dissipates. The fountain was designed and realized in 1914 in Art Nouveau style by the sculptor Karl Donndorf. The goddess of fortune is enthroned in the middle of the semicircular wall which borders one side of the fountain. It is striking that her arms are lying on both sides of the wall, her hands clenched into fists. In these hands she keeps the fate of the people hidden. An inscription revives the meaning of the fountain: "FROM THE DESTINY DARK SOURCE RINNING THE EXCHANGEABLE LOT TODAY YOU'RE FIXED AND BIG TOMORROW WILL KNOW YOU IN THE WAVE. " Two allegories on the left and right of the wall show the happiness and suffering that can appear as exposed peaks of fate. The suffering on the left side is represented by a couple in which a man desperately presses his face into the woman's womb and seeks comfort. On the other hand, fortune shows a seated man looking up to a happy-looking woman holding a wreath of victory and a full bowl of life. Two fountains raise a stream of water to support the symbolism of fate. Prof. Karl Donndorf created the representative work with the sculptors Richard and Willy Schöndorf in memory of the opera singer Anna Sutter, who had been murdered in 1910 by a former lover. This sad fate had moved and inspired Donndorf. It is a wonderful Art Nouveau fountain whose aesthetics is realized in the poignant portrayals. He also has a magnificent environment in the castle garden.
