Trier Amphitheater

It was very quiet when we visited, so we had all the time to study the details and understand the history of this place. Considering it has already largely been restored, it would be even more interesting to see parts of the seating restored as well, perhaps even have performances again. That said, the arena is in great shape and one gets an excellent feel for how things may have been in Roman times.

Outside of the city center of Trier. The amphitheater is really worth the 10 min walk. But you can easily get there by car too . It is a small amphitheater but you are really able to picture how it must have looked in its glory days. Information boards along the site explain the history .

Pretty cool listening to music in the ancient Roman Amphitheater at Trier, Germany. Note the grapevines in the steep hillside. That was where the cheap seats used to be! It was neat being able to walk down below and observe the ancient footings and construction of the site.

About 10 minutes walk from the city center. Big amphitheater from roman times. You can walk around the top, down all around it and under the "arena" in the cellar below. Very interesting to see and fairly well preserved.
