In 1854, a committee, a so-called Comité, was formed by several young men who made voluntary donations to set up a statue of the Virgin Mary in the former cemetery, which was no longer used - opposite the new school. The local council gave on October 3, 1855 his consent to the establishment of a pillar. Two months later, on December 6, 1855, a Marian column was erected. This gave the school its name "Marienschule" and the entire place has since been called "Marienplatz". The Mariensäule was designed and manufactured by the Cologne sculptor Hilgers (Madonna) and the Uerdinger Steinmetz Louis Dicht (base). In this form it is one of the first depictions of the image of Mary in public space and thus one of the oldest in Protestant Prussia in the 19th century. The Marian Column was inaugurated on December 8, 1855 by Pastor Wilhelm Heinrich Heinrichs and has since become a landmark of Fischeln. The patronage for the care and maintenance has taken over the St. Sebastian Brotherhood of St. Clement.
