Could be cleaner
The station is fine but we bought tickets from the ticket office for the skip the line Vatican and Sistine chapel. Since we were both students under 25, the tickets were meant to come to €24 together but the woman working there charged us double. We did not realise the scam until after we'd received the tickets from the Vatican itself. Buy them yourself online or if visiting in winter just queue as the queues are doable.
The Ottaviano station is a 12 minutes walk from the Vatican square. The metro is full of pickpocketers scrambling to devour the bags of tourists. The local law enforcement are helpless and tend to wink away from the situation and poor tourists have a dreadful terrifying experiences. The steps are slippery during the rains. The corridors of many underground stations are bit pretty scary at night. Avoid the morning and the peak busy office hours.
