Quiet place, excellent for bouldering and with excellent chances to meet chamois and roe deer

The place, which is found along the highway 12 south of Rovereto, is reported as the great "ruina" of which Dante Alighieri speaks in the Divine Comedy (Inferno XII, 4-9): "What is that ruina that in the side from here from Trento the Adice beat, or for tremoto or for support not even, that from the top of the mountain, waves moved, on the floor is indeed the unfamiliar rock, that some way would give to whoever it was ... " In reality the area is much more extensive: these are the "Lavini di Marco", an area of over 35 hectares where the rocks that, having detached from Mount Zugna and precipitated downstream, have piled up the river Adige already in prehistoric times. Recent studies on Trentino landslides, carried out with radiometric dating techniques, indicate that a landslide that struck Calliano (located between Trento and Rovereto) corresponds to an earthquake that affected the Val d'Adige in 1117 , a time very close to that in which Dante lived. And much closer to Trento. At this point a time machine would be needed to clarify this dilemma and the dispute between the towns of Marco and Calliano. Surely Marco's landslide is much more suitable for expressing that infernal environment that the Great Poet wanted to create.
