Worst nightmare. Countless times the owner came and entered the room to disturb us having dinner, breakfast, trying to sleep, she stayed there and wanted to ask many unnecessary questions!! like, how old are you? how old is he? married? why this and why that? Do not recommend.

I could only reserve "sudomari" (i.e. without meals) and the facilities are shabby. The owners are very friendly, hence the second star, but the place is not recommended after a long walk. It is relatively cheap compared to other places though, but not to the point where you can ignore the bad rooms (private and shared).

My stay at Azuma was a very special experience from start to finish. It didn't begin auspiciously: it was difficult to make a reservation (the lady on the other end of the phone seemed to be a bit hard of hearing), Once I arrived, though, I was was thankful I chose Azuma. It's true, the facilities are very dated, the doorways are low and the stairs steep, and if you speak no Japanese you probably won't be able to enjoy the local knowledge or the brusque, puttering motherliness of the owner and her husband (who usually stays out of sight). There's no pretension or standing on ceremony here; guests are treated like family, and I enjoyed it enormously, although I can imagine how some might not. Dinner was very tasty, and was ended with complimentary shots of several kinds of liqueurs the owners make from various fruits grown in their own orchards. They also gift walking henro with hand-knitted walking staff "caps" in case your staff is "bald". Overall, an experience I won't soon forget! 6500 yen for a single room, dinner and breakfast.

Old, dirty, bad facilities, and being at a crossroads is very loud and the traffic light enters the room all night. The state of the bathrooms is disgusting. And if that were not enough, the owner is very uneducated, she records your bags and you keep your cell phone in your hand without asking. For 4000 yen it is not recommended. Better look for another site.
