I think it is really important to know what happened in Okinawa during the WW2. The entrance is really cheap (300yen for an adult) and you have an audioguide for free. Mine was in French and it was really well made. The museum is really well made and you can go there with your kids (maybe some pictures are quite strong for them though...) By the way, the building is beautiful and the park as well. A place for silence and respect. Definitely worth to go.

Fantastic place! We entered the museum first, it was big and had a lot of history. Lots of rooms was beautifully decorated to make you feel in the scene, a great work. Outside the museum you have the gardens with the memorials with people's names and one memorial for each province. You can also have a good view of the sea and walk between the trees feeling the nature.

Large building but rather small collection. There is a section with accounts from survivors which is worth listening.

This is a great museum to know about Okinawa history but be aware that good portion of description is missing any English translation. They have galleries tarting from Japanese occupation to US occupation. Yes, I called it occupation. Other than the museum, the surrounding park is free to visit and great area to spend peaceful time. Several other memorials in meticulously curated gardens decorate the vast peace park. NOTE: Taking pictures is prohibited inside museum which is a bummer because you can't take pictures of Japanese texts to translate.

A beautiful and tranquil place with a clear and peaceful message. It stirs feelings of sadness and reverence for the events that occurred during the Battle of Okinawa, but also makes me appreciate what we have now and hope for a better future.
