Family run ryokan, hidden away in the mountains. Great service and food
The Ryokan Owner's father and son can speak english, they serve with full passion and love, i'm really enjoy !excellent scene in every room, good taste meal serve with resonable portion, onsen is the big big selling point in here, here have 6 difference onsen, all is private onsen(exchange your room key in front desk), 雷霆onsen is the best of the best, just zero distance beside the river and good distance to enjoy the best view waterfall and onsen together!
While the Location is great, the facility is on the verge of collapsing. It Badly needs to be refurbished and the actual condition of the building is unacceptable . Some parts of the facility, especially wooden structures, are sealed because of safety issues. No doubt this onsen must have been wonderful back in its prime youth. Concrete is crumbling everywhere and painting is eroding. Also someone need to take the cleaning job seriously. Very kind owner though. I think the best choice at this point is to tear down the whole facility and build a new one. Onsen are absolutely great on the other hand. The one at the top of the river really worth the trip.
Excellent experience at the ryokan. We were the first Airbnb guests. Unfortunately hadn't arrived early enough for dinner, but found an excellent izakaya near by. All the local restaurants and izakaya are ~5minute drive or 30min walk away, so plan ahead!
Our host spoke excellent English and was very attentive. His some, who runs the restaurant, claims to have poor English but it was very easy to communicate.
The room rate was very reasonable. The other reviews are correct in that the building is old and some of the fittings are not brand new, however we felt this added to the charm. Our room was a traditional tatami room with two single Western beds, however we slept on futon. It was comfortable with a good view of the valley. Air conditioning, in room safe and a toilet.
The baths are down a long flight of outdoor stairs. The view from the outdoor baths was lovely and we were fortunate enough to have them to ourselves as only one other couple was staying. Make sure you arrive with though time to luxuriate in there baths, they are much nicer while there is daylight. They close at 22pm. We didn't use the indoor baths, however they are available all night.
The Shinto shrine to the hotel spring gods is opposite the ryokan and is beautiful to visit.
If you are driving, the parking is just past the ryokan, over the bridge to the left.
It was a warm and friendly inn.
The Japanese-Western style room of 10 tatami mats had some insects, but it felt clean.
At the hot springs, we took a bath in Raiyu no Yu, indoor bath, Yuhi no Yu, and Kirinoyu. The bathing system is to exchange the room key and the hot spring key.
In the open-air bath, the stairs are steep, and there is no roof to the innermost Raiyu no Yu, so it rained and it was a bit wet because it was a day.
All of the hot springs are superb views! While I took a bath, Yuhinoyu and Raiki no Yu were hot, and the only suitable temperatures were the indoor bath and Kirinoyu. The shower wasn't in the open-air bath, so I took a shower in the indoor bath before taking a bath.
The dinner and breakfast we received were Japanese food, and home-style meals such as soup and sashimi. It was easy for me to get tired from traveling, so I could relax and eat. was delicious!
The reason for setting it as a star 4 is because (1) insects enter the screen door (it is a little bug like a parasite, but it may be painful for those who are not good at it). (2) The road to the outdoor bath is steep I felt it was hard to go.
It was a very satisfying ryokan for me when I went for a hot spring!
The inn also had a nice heart and people could spend a relaxing time. Thank you very much!
