Sekishoin

I loved the place and the experience. The monks are very friendly and vegetarian food was delicious. The morning prayer was also very beatiful. I want to return again here. 最高でした。感謝致します。

Located beside the entrance of Okunoin Cemetery... Great location for dawn-walking or night-adventure. Dinner (Buddhist Refined Cuisine) / all vegetarian foods / sesame tofu is delicious!

I have not heard about all the media fuzz about this place and I just became aware after my return home. It was kind of embarrassing to read what expectations some people have, coming to the Sekishoin. I would kindly advice, if you don't clearly understand the difference between a working temple with guesthouse and a hotel, just do yourself and all others a favor and stay in the hotel. I was cordially and respectful welcomed in the Sekishoin and promptly guided to my very clean room, that had way more comfort as I would have expected as guest in a temple. Double layers of mattress, heating systems, a vending machine, a full equipped bath room with separate shower - and everything in a locked kind of suite. You have a chance to join at a guest the prayers, what is a unique experience. A priest will help you to keep up with the choir of priests, what was an incredible experience I am grateful for. After the morning ceremony guests have a chance to join the priests and monks to a common breakfast. The last day I was picking up the offer to memorize my late Mom in a ceremony and this was honestly the most touching thing. My cordial thanks go to every single monk, priest and the head priest of this place. I would love to come back one day, and wish you all the best.

The cleanness was awful the toilets smelled like urine the behavior of the staff was unacceptable for this price. The food ugh the food..... it was super cold and the tempura was extremely greasy and we ate in ryokans and paid much less for far more tasty and nice place. And staff were unpleasant and in any other place they were kind and providing good service but here it was horrible.

It's very nice place. Recommend for everybody spiritual people
