Onsen Hotel Gorakan

Beware! If you have kids 13 and over, be careful. We made the reservation via Chase travel portal. When we make the reservation, we provided the information that we have 2 kids - 11 and 13. Total we have 4 ppl. The price of 2 adults and 2 youth is the same as 3 adults and 1 kid. When we arrived at the hotel, the host told us that we have to pay the difference because they consider 13 as a adult! We were shocked. And we pull the Expedia website and showed to them that it is the same price. However the host insisted that we have to pay additional difference - USD $65. Despite we disagreed, we paid the difference because we have no other option. But we wouldn’t stay there again. It is definitely a rip off. Definitely not recommended if you plan to stay there with kid.

Very traditional Japanese hotel, 2 mins walk from Gora station. We stayed for only 1 night, we throughly enjoyed our stay. $300 a night, not too bad for ryokan, the room is super clean and it included 2 people 8 course dinner and breakfast, worth every penny. Make sure you reserve private time with onsen when you checked in. Dinner start at 6:30pm and breakfast start at 8am, make sure you be at the dining hall on time. Last, highly recommended, for people with budget but want to experience traditional Japanese onsen ryokan.

I’d give a 10 stars if I could; - The room smelled like fresh tatami. Super clean. Smells super good. - The outdoor onsen was cloudy; a sign of a good mineral onsen. Giving me a super soft skin. - The highlight is the food. THE FOOD IS SUPER GOOD. I’ve been in and out japanese hotels and inn but this Gorakan food was top notch. Verdict: I’d go back again in a heartbeat.

Expensive (~$300CAD a Night) but totally worth it! Authentic Japanese experience you don't get everywhere. 8 course kaiseki dinner with 4 course breakfast. And 40 minutes of private onsen time. The futon is made for you when you're downstairs for dinner. And the next morning while you're downstairs for breakfast, the futon has been put away and kotatsu and fresh tea made that awaits your return.
