Lots of steps from the parking area leading up to the temple but there is a road that a taxi or other vehicle can take you up to if you are disabled. Be sure to check out everything on the grounds including the pagodas in the back

Kirihata-ji (切幡寺): tenth Temple of the Sacred Shikoku Pilgrimage (四国八十八ヶ所巡り) is located in Awa-shi, Tokushima-ken, Japan. Kirihata-ji is located in the middle of Mount Kirihata (切幡山) and is about 800 meters above sea level. From National route 139 you turn into a narrow street lined with minshuku (民宿) and shops catering to the henro pilgrims. After a short walk you reach the Mountain Gate (Sanmom - 山門) of Kirihata-ji. From here on its more climbing up on Mount Kirihata (切幡山), be warned there are exactly 333 steps before you reach the main plateau of the temple grounds. Please note, if you want to see the Ōtō (大塔) pagoda, dating back to 1618 and an Important Cultural Property, you’ll have to climb more steps.

First, the first difficulty is that the road is too narrow to drive. Please think that there is no place to separate when an oncoming vehicle comes. There is a parking lot where you can put about 10 cars as soon as you cross the gate. You can choose to park your car and walk along the mountain road, or you can drive to the front of the temple. However, this road cannot be separated, so be prepared for oncoming vehicles. I actually stopped at the parking lot and walked up, but it took about 15 minutes. Along the way, I saw a car that was in trouble because it couldn't be separated, so I think it was the right choice.
