Nice, calm place to walk around, have a picnic on a lawn or run around with children. Art museum rotates exhibitions relatively often. Some of them are better than others but I would consider them as a bonus to a beautiful garden and museum building itself. P.s. I've been here many times at different time and weekdays and never garden has been overcrowded.

This museum was interesting to me for a few reasons. First, it is an impressive mix of Western and traditional Japanese architecture. It is also a structure that illustrates how quickly Japan embraced many aspects of the West, particularly in how influential Western architects were in this transformation. There is a display that deals with the architect who designed the residence, Henri Rapin. The residence is designed in the Art Deco style. The museum is adjacent to the Institute for Nature Study a 49.5 acre wilderness park, the purpose of which is to preserve the condition of the ancient Musashi Plain that once lay to the west of Tokyo. This park is beautiful and it was a very pleasant and peaceful oasis in Tokyo.

Outside is great for kids when the weather is good. Inside is a no-no with young kids. Staff are pretty stuffy and it is quite a serious place. Great for adults to appreciate, stick outside with little ones

I think this is one of the most magnificent art deco in the world. It is very unique as a case that a house for royal family was build with this style and that its construction was lead by the owner, princess herself who was fascinated in art deco, therefore you can see the best quality of the materials are used in every single piece. You’ll be also amazed for how such a wonderful art deco was created by European art deco designer who had never been to Japan, Japanese architects who had never seen the real art deco in Europe and the princess who only knew both. It’s miracle collaboration. Don’t miss if you come to Tokyo.

A beautiful place with a long history. A great secret place to do Hanami or to take a walk.
